Very compelling indeed.

I'm wondering though,if using the term "WATCHTOWER" throughout the movie will make it seem out of date or distance the information presented, from the current JW.org ? I think that's the hope and the goal behind the JW.org push lately.

How do we set up a "Used New Bike Fund" for Terry?

is there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?

with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.

does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?

I still love Kingdom Melodies.

ok, at the risk of getting flamed, i have been out for over 20 years, and still love kingdom melodies.

i remember them for the good times, the conventions and assemblies, hearing the orchestral versions, imagining the orchestra playing.

some pieces were really nice.

I understand what you're saying but any music from memorable events of the past (especially ones youth) can conjur up nostalgic sentiments even when we weren't having such a nice time....it doesn't mean there was anything significant about that music in itself, it just happened to be the sound track that someone decided to lay down at that time. The younger 20 and 30 something JW's of today will in a decade of so (if they aren't already) be saying the kingdom songs of the 80's and 90's was the best and are the ones they love the most. It's the same reason why older folks always think the music from their youth is so much better than the music that is currently popular.

Glen Hyde was a 'mans man'

What does that even mean?? (I know what it means but it almost sounds worse than being a Mamma's boy LOL !)

I knew Knorr in the last year of his life. He did seem pretty bland and no nonsense...very stuffed shirt like and his wife was just sort of...there....not much to say, but who wouldn't be that way after living most of ones life in a religious institution and having everyones eyes on you at all times looking for any hint of a flaw ? Can't imagine it....very sad.

I HAD MY BICYCLE STOLEN!

three months ago i had to stop driving my car.

it wouldn't pass inspection and it would cost about $3k to get it up to par.. well, it's a 98 honda accord with about 179 thousand miles on it, what did i expect?.

.. i decided i would switch to riding a bicycle instead.. it has worked out fairly well.. i put about 10 miles a day on it.

Sounds like the theif needed a bike at that moment and likely dumped it as soon as he got where he wanted. Keep an eye out for it in the vacinity, in parks, alleys or even at garage sales. Check at the police station or put up missing bike signs in the area. See if your town has some kind of social media where you can ask for people's help to find it. Keep your sales receipt and that photo with you so you can prove it's yours.

Are we starting to treat DF people differently?

some may remember the time when the private study edition of the wt wasn't to be made available to outsiders, and the df'd.. now, with the recent boe letter, sept 1, 2014, it specifically states that jw.org is making the km available even for df'd individuals.. do you sense a new trend developing?.

No....I think DF'd people are all pretty much treated crapily in equal measures for the most part..

I do think that there are differences in how people end up D.F.'d, depending upon who they know and what congregation they wind up in.

I'm sure every one of the items listed has a perfectly logical JW explaination as to why they came about. Most of them make complete sense from a business standpoint if you don't suspect an ulterior motive. (and I'm pretty sure there is one)

Is new light coming again?

i just turned in my resignation letter to my congregation a few weeks ago.

last week, 2 elders called me to say they received my letter and would like to meet with me to discuss my concerns.

in my letter, i said i had found out about all the child abuse cases that were going on and that i didnt agree with their policy of disfellowshipping.

Since the "oh so important" bookstudy was deleted some time ago, they're probably reinstating "goody night" once a month, right after the service meeting is concluded....Wouldn't want to miss out on that !

Seriously though, some have speculated that they'll soon do away with DF'ing and shunning. Since you brought this topic up in your conversation with them, maybe that's what they're talking about. Can't you imagine how furious some JW's would be if they no longer had any excuse to shun people they've been shunnin for years? Talk about having to eat Crow !

I doubt it though, it's more likely the "goody night" thing.

A must to be MS?

so is it a must and an absolute requirement to be a ministerial servant in the org?.

i was told that if i refuse an appointment as an ms then it means i'm opposing "jehovah's call to service".

I was approached several times and was told that my name came up in the Elders meeting as a recommendaton to be a M.S. but I needed to increase my hours in field service first. I had two young children, a full time job, spent 10 hours a week commuting back and forth, 5 hours a week sitting in meetings, 3 hours a week getting dressed for and traveling to meetings, 2 hours a week studying with the family and preparing for the book study and watchtower study 4 hours a month going in service on the weekends not to mention all the time at volunteering and sitting through assemblies each year. Finally I told them that I'm the same person with the same abilities whether I spend 10 hours in service or 4 and it was pretty discouraging to think that I wasn't doing enough to even qualify for an unpaid volunteer position that I didn't even volunteer for.

That was the beginning of the end for me. I quit striving so hard to make it to meetings. If I was tired, I stayed home. If I had things to do around the house on the weekends, I did them rather than go in service. When they got rid of the Book Study after saying for decades how important it was, I realized that so much of the activities JW's do is completly man made busy work and I let them know why when they expressed concern about not seeing me around as much and saw that my wife and kids were attending the meetings without me. Pretty soon that ended as well.
